No Problem Movie Review

The latest film starring a whole lot of Bollywood stars in No problem is a big farce directed by Anees Bazmee. The man has really gone bankrupt with ideas, so nonsensical is the story that even a third grade student can come up with something intelligent and funny. One wonders the reason behind making this film, if it is meant to make people laugh, the gags fall flat, must try hard to tickle thy self as the plot goes for a toss and returns in the final scenes only to be dismantled and deconstructed.

Sanjay Dutt looks as if he has done a favour to Bazmee by acting in this so called comic caper, Anil Kapoor should have continued watching his Slum Dog Millionair DVD and shouldn't have come out of retirement. Sushmita Sen who plays the role of Anil Kapoor's wife, suffering from a split personality over does every scene and every expression and when she is doing nothing, she ends up looking like an over dressed Christmas tree, throwing sickles, hammers and what you have at her unsuspecting and tolerating hubby.

Kangana Ranaut has seemingly put on some weight, tries doing a Barbie with her false eye lashes and a fringe, Neetu Singh in her ghastly short costumes tries some stunts, all in all a big group of actors make a mockery of themselves. Try not looking for a story as there is none but you do understand that there are a few people trying to rob diamonds, there are cops trying to nab them. The setting is in Durban, and all the jokers meet up with a Gorilla who does the impossible and the diamonds landing in a fishes tummy.

No Problem has no soul, no structure, bad music but lovely cinematography. Do yourself a favour by plugging your ears and getting some sound sleep this biting winter.

Pamela Pamela Anderson Entry - Big Boss 4 house Pamela Anderson Entry Pa...

Bigg Boss 4 - Episode 45 November 16 2010

Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson entered the Bigg Boss house on Tuesday night looking aged and haggard. A slinky, strappy blouse and a very Bollywoodish white chiffon sari were very much in place, but the 43- year- old couldn’t quite turn on the heat as she did a decade ago with her trademark red swimsuit on Baywatch. Pamela appears on Bigg Boss season 4 for just three episodes.

She is a sort of ‘ item number’ on the show, which seems desperate right now to beat the TRPs of rival reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati 4. After all, the Amitabh Bachchcan- helmed KBC , aired in the same primetime slot on a rival channel, has been enjoying TRPs close to 4.7 while Bigg Boss 4 ratings have failed to cross 3.7 so far.

Pamela was reportedly paid close to Rs. 9 crore for the three days she will be seen in the Bigg Boss house. However, for all the hype generated on her arrival, her participation seems like a clear case Hollywood dumping a ‘ has- been’ celeb on Indian audiences.

On Tuesday’s episode, Pamela didn’t look like she is interested in creating any fireworks that can top what Dolly Bindra has already created on the show. She went about grinning self- consciously and striking namaste poses as she was introduced to the housemates. And she tried picking up some basic tips on spoken Hindi.

However, fans of the show expecting a bikini sizzle from Pamela will be disappointed. Among preconditions she has reportedly laid down is one stating that she won’t wear a bikini on Bigg Boss 4. Instead, she wants to present an ethnic image. So, she entered the house wearing a chiffon sari with baadla work, designed by Ashley Rebello.

On Tuesday’s episode, Pamela could not do much to hide her wrinkles, which showed more prominently once she removed her make-up after settling down in the house.

Sachin Tendulkar: Love For Films Continues To Be Off-Screen

Previously Sunil Gavaskar, Vindi Kambli and Ajay Jadeja have been part of various films will Sachin follow the suit too in near future, let’s just wait and see.
Sachin Tendulkar is a self confessed Hindi movie buff but no matter what rumors are doing the rounds the master blaster is no mood to join the film world. After breaking one record after another the rumor had it that soon Sachin might just make his silver screen debut. But the guy has busted all the rumors stating that all his main interested is still cricket and his interest for Bollywood stays limited to watching films only.
The alleged news of him acting on films caught up even more when Vidu VInod Chopra met Sachin and the buzz started that the director – producer has signed the cricketer for his upcoming directorial venture Ferrari Ki Sawarri. But unfortunately and fortunately all the Sachin fans have to satiate themselves to seeing the man hitting some six4s and fours on the field and not show casing his histrionics on-screen.
Sachin and his wife recently wanted to relax after scoring his 49th ton by watching Rishi Kapoor – Neetu Singh starrer Do Dooni Chaar. The cricketer called up his good friend Vidhu Vinod Chopra and asked him the favor of arranging a private screening for him and his family. No wonder that Sachin was obliged with the request and the debutant director of the film Habib Faizal is honored.

Ash continues to flourish in Bollywood as she turns 37

By Agencies
Mumbai:
Ash continues to flourish in Bollywood as she turns 37: Usually the career of a Bollywood diva takes a downfall one she reaches 30, but Aishwarya seems to be an exception.

As she turns 37 today, she still remains to be every director’s delight. She has two mega projects—“Action Replayy” opposite Akshay Kumar and “Guzaarish” opposite Hrithik Roshan lined up for release.
The former is slated to hit theatres this Diwali and the latter on 19th November. She has completed 13 years in her film career. Director Subhash Ghai stated “Aishwarya always followed me during the shooting of ‘Taal’, and is a complete director’s actor.”
He said further, “I’m proud she has evolved so much as an actor. She is giving good performances, she has achieved international fame, and she is leading a happy married life — what else can she ask for from life? But she is as grounded as ever.”
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the other hand stated “Aishwarya is my muse, my jaan and I get terribly excited when I make a film with her because she is very, very special. Some people are timeless and Aishwarya will be there for another 20 years.”

Rs 100 crore at stake for Bollywood this Diwali

NEW DELHI: Close to Rs 100 crore is at stake for Bollywood during the Diwali weekend with two big budget movies, Golmaal 3 and Action Replayy, slated for debut that will set the tone for other significant releases next month.
For cinema theatres that tend to focus on cashing on the maximum during the opening weekend of a movie release, launch of a big film around a major holiday has become crucial for their revenue model. It also dictates fortunes for the Indian film industry that produces the most number of flicks in any single year around the world. “Movie buffs look forward to Diwali and Christmas as big movies are released during this time,” said trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Golmaal-3 promotion
Although, the quantum of money at stake this year is just half of the production budget of the three movies released last Diwali, the industry would be hoping for a better show. While mega budget flick Blue and a mid-sized movie Main Aurr Mrs Khanna sank, another relatively big budget movie, All the Best, was the only one that managed to woo audiences last year.
Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision produced Golmaal 3 starring Ajay Devgn , Kareena Kapoor and Arshad Warsi will lock horns with Vipul Shah produced Action Replayy starring Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, for eyeballs. Golmaal 3 is being distributed by Eros International that recently raised money through a public issue of shares and PVR Pictures, a subsidiary of multiplex operator PVR Ltd , will distribute Action Replayy in India.
“We slotted Action Replayy for a Diwali release as it is a fun film and in sync with the festive spirit,” said producer & director Vipul Shah. Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR Pictures said scheduling a film release during Diwali has to do with consumers’ willingness to spend on shopping and entertainment. Both the comedy movies will have wide release with an above average 1,800-2,000 prints with marketing budget of around `7-8 crore each, the same amount used to make a small budget film.
Rupen Amlani, director-marketing & distribution at Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision said the company has tied up with several brands for in-film placement and promotional tie-ups. These include Tupperware, Emami and Bagpiper among others. The multiplex industry executives believe if both the movies click with the audience, it could turn out to be one of the biggest weekend grossers for them this year, possibly surpassing the previous best during the Id weekend when Dabangg was released.
Following the two Diwali weekend releases in November, there will be Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Guzarish besides movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in 3D. December will see Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan starring Akshay Kumar.

Aishwarya and Kareena fighting this Diwali

She is the most beautiful women alive in Bollywood and another has topped the power list of Bollywood damsels.
Folks, this Diwali there’s a fight for supremacy as the top ladies of Bollywood glitterati will be battling it out for the crown of the Queen. Both Aishwarya and Kareena will be seen in this year’s Diwali dhamakas ‘Action Replayy’ and ‘Golmaal 3’ respectively and people have started the speculations on who will emerge as the winner.
Well the opinion is fairly divided in the industry who is giving almost equal points to both the B-town lovelies Kareena and Aishwarya.
According to some it will be Aishwarya who will grab the crown which is still not occupied, whereas some believe Kareena will surpass everyone and will pose happily with the crown. The reasons being given for Kareena is her popularity as a brand and her top position in brand endorsements where she has  bagged major giants, she acted in the mega hit ‘3 Idiots’ which became the biggest grosser of Bollywood last year.
Aishwarya on the other hand has the biggest hit of Bollywood history ‘Robot’ to her credit and being a senior and ex Miss world, Aishwarya can bank on her vast range of admirers around the globe.
Difficult to say who will be able to influence the audience the most but one thing is sure… This Diwali, Bollywood promises guaranteed entertainment where you have Vipul Shah’s rom com ‘Action Replayy’ bringing the nostalgia of the swinging seventies back, whereas Rohit Shetty with his gang and the laughing gas is back with the third edition of the fun and masti ‘Golmaal3’… Obviously the audience would love to watch both the film but folks, the question is who will be the first choice... Aishwarya or Kareena…? tell us as we all want to know…

Bollywood looks for Diwali success

Bollywood is gearing up for a slew of new releases over the Hindu festival of Diwali, with expectations high that they will provide some cheer after a lacklustre year at the box office.
At least 10 big films are due to hit the screens in the coming weeks, with hopes of success pinned on the comedy " Golmaal 3" and the time-travel romance "Action Replayy" (eds: correct) that will be released on Diwali itself on November 5.
Like the Christmas period for Hollywood, Diwali has traditionally been seen as a money-spinner for India's Hindi-language film industry, as studios look to attract the holiday crowd with well-trailed movies featuring big name stars.
Industry watchers estimate that Bollywood could make four billion rupees (90 million dollars) by the end of the year.
"The year has not been so good," said leading analyst Amod Mehra. "The success ratio has been very low. The worst period for the industry was in May and June when two films, 'Kites' and 'Raavan' bombed badly.
"The losses from these two films was two billion rupees and it was a huge blow.
"A ray of hope has been provided by two films, 'Dabaang' (Fearless) and 'Robot'. Things are looking very promising this festive season."
"Dabaang", starring Salman Khan, grossed 10.8 million dollars during its opening weekend last month, surpassing the record of Aamir Khan's hit " 3 Idiots", which took nine million dollars earlier this year.
The sci-fi fantasy adventure " Robot", made in three languages and starring the South Indian film legend Rajinikanth, opened two weeks ago and took more than double that, according to industry figures.
Trailers for "Golmaal 3" have been well received, amid hopes it can repeat the success of previous editions of the comic capers of a group of young friends.
"Expectations are huge from 'Golmaal 3'," said critic Komal Nahta. "It's a sure shot winner. It's the same with 'Action Replayy'."
"Golmaal 3" stars Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor with a return to the screens for veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, "the Indian James Bond", whose spy films from the 1980s have become cult hits.
"Action Replayy" sees Akshay Kumar go back in time to the 1970s to try to save his parents' ailing marriage.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan -- fresh from her success alongside Rajinikanth in "Robot" -- also stars, with a supporting cast of huge flares, wing collars and platform shoes.
A successful Diwali would raise spirits in Bollywood, which was hit last year by a producers' boycott of multiplex cinemas, swine flu fears and a string of big budget failures. The economic downturn also affected overseas takings.
Overall revenues fell 14 percent to 89.3 billion rupees in 2009, consultancy KPMG said in a report for the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The chief executive of the Star India group, Uday Shankar, told Businessworld magazine this month that only 14 of the 235 films released in the 12 months to August this year made a net profit.
Concerns have been expressed about the fees demanded by some leading actors and the need for studios to diversify revenue streams through cable and satellite television rights, the DVD home rental market and music downloads.
Salman Khan also echoed another long-standing worry in an interview with Businessworld.
"Perhaps not enough attention is paid to the script or sometimes viewers just don't like the film," he was quoted as saying.
"There are many entertainment options these days. It is a difficult phase for the industry but the show must go on."

Salman Rejects Aishwarya Rai Bachchan For Bigg Boss Sets?

Salman Khan is witty, naughty, childish, mature, sober, arrogant, attacker, blunt and everything else while hosting Bigg Boss Season 4. His appearance on the show definitely pleases his fans outside and equally the housemates. Bigg Boss
He keeps reminding viewers about his latest hit Dabbang. He has a different style of handling and managing any situation that arises during the hosting sessions. And his style above all is unique.
There is a trend these days that new releases or to be released Bollywood movies are promoted on small screen serials and reality shows being aired on the television. Such promotions are done with the help of lead cast of that movie or the main back end operational persons of the movie visiting the reality show and brief about their latest venture.
It is lead cast, director, producer or music director usually visit the show and request viewers to watch their latest movie

Kareena Kapoor: I love my voluptuous look

Kareena Kapoor recently shot for a shoe ad with beau Saif Ali Khan and had no problems flaunting her sexy new image, a far cry from her size zero look. Says a source, "Recently, the actress shot for a shoe ad with beau Saif. Celebrity models are usually conscious about their legs looking even slightly plump, but not Bebo.
She was heard telling the photographer that the shapely look suits her much better than the skinny, size zero look. Apparently, the chote nawab approves of his gal's new avatar."
 Kareena in the shoe ad
I'm natural
The source adds, "Bebo is fed up of people calling her size zero. She loves her new look and has absolutely no qualms flaunting it. Normally, most celebrity endorsers ask for airbrushing and touch ups after photo shoots so they look slimmer or sexier than they actually are, but Kareena's photos are natural as she never asks for airbrushed pictures."

Love the way I look
Admits the actress, "I have consciously decided to get more voluptuous and I love the way I look! I can't be stick-thin all my life. I had lost weight for a particular role in Tashan and for Kambakhht Ishq but my new releases require me to look more voluptuous. I play cuter, bubblier roles in my films like Ra.One, Bodyguard, Agent Vinod and a film with Imran (Khan). I am consciously making an effort to balance out my yoga and not diet or work out drastically."

Box Office: New Bollywood releases take dull opening; all eyes on Diwali

MUMBAI: The four Hindi movie released this past weekend failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box office.
The movies released were John Abraham’s Jhootha Hi Sahi, Mallika Sherawat’s Hisss, Vivek Oberoi’s Rakhta Charitra and Manoj Bajpai’s Dus Tola. Of these, Jhootha Hi Sahi fared better than its peers with net collections of approximately Rs 60 million (Rs 6 crore) in the opening weekend. On its opening Friday, the movie’s net collections stood at a mere Rs 17.50 million (Rs 1.75 crore).
On the other hand, Rakht Charitra, which did net business of Rs 10 million (Rs 1 crore) on Friday, saw opening weekend net collections of approximately Rs 32.50 million (Rs 3.25 crore).
The much-hyped Hisss performed poorly at the box office too with opening weekend net collections of approximately Rs 30 million (Rs 3 crore).
With these movies performing badly, the film industry’s eyes are now on the Diwali releases since there are no big releases lined up this week. The Diwali weekend will see the Akshay Kumar - Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Action Replayy releasing with the Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade’s comic caper Golmaal 3

Abhishek Bachchan and Prahlad Kakkar: War of words

Hubby of Aishwarya Rai and a renowned Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan is seething in rage these days. After all, someone isn’t quite impressed by his acting skills and is lashing out at him with sarcastic remarks.
Ad man Prahlad Kakkad has raised eyebrows after suggesting in mock sarcasm that Abhishek’s name must feature in the Guinness Book of World Records. Reason? Well, Prahlad is of the opinion that he is perhaps the only actor who has survived in the industry despite 17 flops.
.Of course, Prahlad wants to convey his grudge that how partial and biased the filmdom is. Abhishek has survived in this rat raced industry only coz his dad is a mega star. And Abhishek being the hot-headed man that he is, couldn’t help but retort back. It is clear that Prahlad’s comments didn’t quite go down his throat and Abhishek took to twitter to lash out with his barbed words.
He suggested that perhaps Prahlad should take up stand-up comedy coz that is the only way people are going to pay serious heed to him. And Abhishek also hurled abuse at him by citing that may he (Prahlad) give his sons the opportunity that they might some day call themselves a proud son.
Clearly, with the war of words heating up hard, we expect more back-biting to follow suit. Ur turn, Prahlad!

Deepika: Looking forward to meet Sonam

It's hot news that Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor will be appearing on Karan's chat show soon.
And while everyone is touting this as the big 'patch-up', the gals seem to see things differently. Ms Dee candidly told our Planet Bollywood reporter that, "People are saying that this is going to be a patch up. But I say there was never a problem between us.
It's just that we are two people who never really kept in touch. I am looking forward to meeting her on the show." We're sure the lovelies have a lot of catching up to do, and we don't even need to guess what, rather who, will be the hot topic of discussion. A 'special' someone, undoubtedly!

Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif split final

People aren’t shocked anymore with this splitville story. Well, it has happened many times that Bollywood hot pair Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan have “split”. But this one report surely puts any speculations about the two being together again
Katrina has apparently told a tabloid paper that her relation with Salman was over.
“I wouldn’t like to specify when. That’s between the two of us, but it just happened. That doesn’t mean that we look the other way when we see each other. There’s no bitterness between us,” the report quoted her as saying.
“Our relationship status seems to be bothering everyone. But now enough has been said on the subject. There’s so much happening in my life now. I just want to concentrate on my career,” she added.

Bollywood Gossip Of The Week

October 19, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): This is your one stop shop for the latest happenings in the town. The buzz. The release plans. The launches. The works. Yes, this is serious business and we will bring to you the most reliable information week after week. Have a dekko.
- Shah Rukh is getting into action big time. Pun intended. He has kick started the shoot of the sequel to ‘Don’. Meanwhile, his team will get busy with the post production of ‘Ra. 1′, a film which is touted to be bigger than Rajnikanth’s ‘Robot’.
- Release of ‘Kajraare’ has shocked the trade industry and audience alike. This Himesh Reshammiya starrer was released in one show each in Mumbai and Pune without any prior intimation, so much so that even Himesh Reshammiya and director Pooja Bhatt were caught by surprise.
- Flip flop continues around Hrithik Roshan’s next two projects after ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’. There is no confirmation yet on whether he would be a part of Karan Johar’s remake of ‘Agneepath’ and Shekhar Kapur’s ‘Paani’ or not.
- After an eventful 2009 (Ajab Prem Ki Ghzab Kahani, Wake Up Sid, Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year) and 2010 (Raajneeti, Anjaana Anjaani) which saw five of his films releasing in a span of 13 months, Ranbir Kapoor can take a breather. He has at least 9 months to go before his next release ‘Rockstar’.
- November, which was earlier boasting of only four notable films - ‘Action Replayy’, ‘Golmaal 3′, ‘Guzaarish’ and ‘Break Ke Baad’ - is turning heavier. Quite some backlog from October is spilling over with ‘Allah Ke Banday’ and ‘A Flat’ opting for November release. Moreover, Part II of ‘Rakta Charitra’, too, is all set to arrive on 19th November, the same day as ‘Guzaarish’.

John Abraham promotes ‘Jhoota Hi Sahi’ in style

New Delhi: Bollywood hunk John Abraham and newbie Pakhi visited Zee News for the promotion of their latest film ‘Jhoota Hi Sahi’. The stud, all decked up in black and tattered denims, looked absolutely contradicting to what his screen character of his latest film depicts.

With its whacky rushes, ‘Jhoota Hi Sahi’ directed by Abbas Tyrewala has already created a buzz in the country. The film is slated to release next Friday and John will be seen in an all, new geek avatar in this flick.

He was accompanied by the lead actress of the film Pakhi, who happens to be the director’s wife and who, as a matter of fact, is also the script writer of the film, and was friendly with journos and seemed pretty excited about her maiden venture.

John on the other hand may have been tad bit worried because of him being sentenced to 15 days of custody for a 2006 accident, in which the actor has been convicted of rash driving injuring two people.

Nevertheless, the hunk didn’t let it show on his face and went all along with the promotional campaign of his film.

John had always wanted to work in a film where his performance didn’t get overshadowed by his physicality, he said. The actor`s wish could well be fulfilled in Abbas Tyrewala`s ‘Jhoota Hi Sahi’, since he has kept his well-toned body and macho look on the back burner and plays a normal guy who works in a book store.

Padukone: 'Character shift was challenge'

Deepika Padukone has admitted that she found the shift in character for her two latest roles “very challenging”.

Speaking in an interview with IANS, the actress said that it was difficult going from a romantic comedy leading lady to the historical figure of Indian activist Kalpana Datta in such a short space of time.

"I did Break Ke Baad and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey immediately one after the other. So I think it was very challenging for me in terms of my mind space to shift from the character in a romantic modern-day love story to the one in a period film," she said.

Padukone stars alongside Imran Khan in the Danish Aslam-directed Break Ke Baad, to be released on November 26.

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, which is based on the Manini Chatterjee book about the Chittagong uprising of 1930, is due for release on December 3.

Khali exposes housemates

The Great Khali reveals his latent talent for reading palms. Samir and Rahul are only happy to have their fate read in tonight's episode of Bigg Boss.

The Great Khali is known for his dramatic moves and smack downs in the ring. But in tonight's episode of Bigg Boss, he reveals another talent that he had concealed from his fans. The art of palm reading!
The first person to have his palm read is Samir. After carefully scrutinizing Samir's palm, Khali points out that Samir has been cheated in life and has even gone through a near-death experience. While Samir looks completely surprised at this evaluation, Khali also predicts that Samir will find true love and will soon be a happily married man. Let's hope actress Neelam is tuned in to today's episode.
Khali's biggest fan in the house, Rahul Bhatt, couldn't be left behind and requests Khali to read his palm as well. Khali doesn't disappoint Rahul either and points out that he will be settled in Mumbai, even if he is required to travel abroad from time to time. He also adds that Rahul would be very prosperous in his career in some time.
As long as the predictions are positive, we're sure the housemates would have little to complain. Let's just hope Khali doesn't reveal any dark secrets that his mates wouldn't want announced on national television.

When was the last time you saw something - on a window display, on Amazon.com, in the flight magazine - and told yourself, 'Someday, I'll buy that!'? Santosh Duggal fights that battle almost every day! His animated family's needs far surpass his paycheck. After all, how much does an average Indian school teacher make? Probably 3 fancy dinners at the Marriott. But they are happily living in their little middle-class Delhi paradise.

And then one day, arrives Phupho, Duggal's 'little' sister from Meerut. She is here to invite them to a wedding at her in-laws and give them an ultimatum: They have to come by a car. The only problem is that the Duggals don't own a car. Phupho's solution? 'Khareed lo!'

There is too much of Phupho's pride at stake to cancel going to the wedding. So the Duggals gear up for their first big purchase in years. The piggy banks are emptied. The PF is encashed. A loan is in the offing. New hiding places in the house are found, where everyone discreetly kept their savings.. and secrets. But the real battlelines are drawn within the house. The four of them can't seem to agree on anything - the car, the make, the color.. Like Payal says, 'Hamaare ghar par discussions aise hi hote hai!' A mad journey ensues. After putting together all their resources, there is one big hole that remains to be filled. And then comes a gigantic lurking temptation. An easy way out? Will they take it?

DO DOONI CHAAR will revive your memories of your own family's story. It is the story of the middleclass man and his tireless endeavor in coping with the fast, new 'India Shining'. It's funny, real and heart warming. We all have our own scooter-to-car tales. We are all our own Duggal. Do Dooni Chaar makes us see the Duggal in us with the rare chance to laugh at ourselves.

Khichdi - Movie Review

Movie: Khichdi - The Movie
Director: Aatish Kapadia
Cast: Supriya Pathak, Anang Desai, Rajeev Mehta, Nimisha Vakharia, Jamnadas Majethia, Kirti Kulhari
Special Appearance: Farah Khan, Satish Shah, Deven Bhojani, Paresh Ganatra

The story is narrated by the only two ‘normal’ people of the Parekh family; Jacky and Chucky. The hilarious beginning of the movie sees Satish Shah playing God and explaining how the people in this family are so ridiculously stupid. The main plot of the movie revolves around Himanshu (JD Majethia) and his desire to have a ‘legendary’ love story. The search begins. Unfortunately, no family can tolerate the Parekhs and Himanshu is left bereft. Babuji (Anang Desai) consoles Himanshu saying that for each Praful, there is a Hansa. Finally, Himanshu manages to strike a chord with a family as ridiculous as his, the Parminders, where all 50 members of the family are named Parminder. The romance between Himanshu and Parminder is hysterically funny with a song sequence in a market.

Both families are in tandem and things are going smoothly, too smoothly in Himanshu’s opinion. A love story without struggle is not a ‘legendary’ love story and since everyone in the family is trying to fulfill the last wish of Himanshu’s late father; which was to fulfill Himanshu’s dream, they start coming up with plans to disrupt the wedding. What follows has to be seen to be believed.
Supriya Pathak as Hansa and Rajeev Mehta as Praful are superb and play the buffoons brilliantly. Their trademark ‘Praful, What is’, ‘Hello, How are, Khana khake jaana huh’ and ‘Babuji main hoon naa’ incite laughs. In fact, most people in the theatre spoke along with the characters. Babuji (Anang Desai) is irritated as ever, the food obsessed Himanshu is endearing and Jayshree, played by Nimisha Vakharia does a commendable job in replacing the original Jayshree from the show.
Don’t go looking for sense. Expect to be thoroughly entertained. Go with a bunch of friends and laugh at every stunt pulled. A treat for Khichdi enthusiasts, Khichdi - The movie manages to NOT disappoint.

Have you ever seen a filmi film? The kind of film where everything is larger than life? The bullet hits the Rolex which stops so you know a man's time is up? The woman has a hole in the heart and has only a few years to live? The man looks out at the sea and wants it to be in his "baahen" (arms)? Heroines flutter their false eyelashes and fans get signatures on Rs 1,000 notes which they then tear with great flourish. Films spout lines such as, "Main tumhare bachche ki maa banne wali hoon."

Well, Milan Luthria's film is that sort of film. It's overwritten, over acted, overcharged but also super fun. Nothing is simple here. Every dialogue is like a philosophical statement. "Jab dost bana kar kaam ho sakta hai to dushman kyon banaye," says Devgn's Sultan Mirza as he speaks to the dons of Mumbai--each one has had a movie made on him. "Jinki manzil ek hai woh raaste par hi milte hai," so says the heroine to her soon-to-be hero. As everyone knows the story is a fictional recreation of the rise of Mumbai's underworld, of the replacement of the gentler anti-social smuggling of Haji Mastan with the hard nosed, hard hearted gangsterism of Dawood Ibrahim. Devgn is Mirza/Mastan and Emraan Hashmi is Shoaib/Dawood. Mirza has his Madhubala (?) and Shoaib has his Mandakini. Mirza has his all white attire and Shoaib has his all black heart. Mirza is a boy who came to Mumbai in a "machli ki tokri" and Shoaib is the son of an honest police officer.

Yes, yes, with some changes of character here and there it could be Company. It is not, not even because of Devgn's presence. It is part costume drama, part period film and part crime thriller. It is also all glamour, from the hair on Kangna's elaborate wigs to the tips of Devgn's white shoes. Luthria, a Bollywood talent who has for one reason or the other, been languishing on the periphery should come full front and centre with this, fullfilling the early promise of Kache Dhage. He is in command of his film, however melodramatic it may be. A love letter to Mumbai, this is a film that trots out every possible placard signalling it is the 70s. Yes, "Amit" has the intense eyes required to play Mirza in a film (Deewar, anyone?). Yes, Bobby's polka dot lie-up shirt and hot pants became quite the rage. Yes, Mastan was a Robin Hood character who helped the poor whenever he could. And yes, Dawood was a new age criminal who believed the "ghoda" (gun) was the source of all power and the supari was the solution for all ills.
The movie takes us back to the last years of innocence, when it was clear that the social fabric of Mumbai was tearing. When it was clear that crime paid, got you the bangla, the gadi and the girl. When the police tried to prop one gang against another to create chaos in the underworld. When the economy of shortages meant no opportunities for youngsters. When criminals started becoming more powerful than politicians.

You can understand why then that dialogues like this: ''duniye raakh ki tarah neeche hogi aur khud dhuye ki tarah upar'' make so much sense. As does this: "Himmat batai nahin jati, dikhai jati hai." The clash of civilisations, between Mastan's gentler way of doing business and Dawood's criminal ways could not be sharper. Hashmi has played impetuous upstart before and can now do this sort of role in his sleep but he brings a new sleeker danger to Dawood's role. Devgn is also now a past master at playing the conscience striken criminal--I smuggle those things for which the government doesn't give permission, not for which my conscience doesn't. Kangna has never looked lovelier and been more playful. This is one girl who has not come out of a bottle, or even if she has, the bottle is broken. Prachi Desai as Dawood/Shoaib's girlfriend, who is as "garam" as the food she serves, is suitably tremulous and pleading.
The tragedy is even Dawood's beginnings look so modest by today's hugely corrupt standards. He has a two-in-one and phone and expects his girlfriend to be happy. He is not. He is greedy. He wants Mumbai, never mind if the city becomes as dirty as his deeds.

You get the picture, hmm? The film is directed with precision, the drama at a tone that matches the decor, the cabaret, the dialogues. Its cinematography is by Aseem Mishra who shot New York as well. And even the walk-on parts are played pitch perfect, from Randeep Hooda's policeman, Agnel Wilson, who blames himself for creating a monster, and Naved Aslam is stoic as Patrick, Mastan/Mirza's Man Friday. As Mastan would say "har kitab ki kismat main library nahin hoti, kuch kabadi ki dukan main milti hain". But this little number belongs to a full house.
Watch it. It's like watching a retro fashion show with some cool gun battles thrown in. Lots of rain, lots of crashing of the waves, moody lighting, and dialogues that echo Salmi-Javed at their purplest prose. Ahh. Mumbai when it was still Bombay.

A word about:
Performances: Excellent, across the board. Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi grab eyeballs, like never before, as do the other characters. The girls -- Kangna and Prachi -- are sheer gossamer.
Story:
Rajat Arora reinvents drama in contemporaray cinema.

Dialogues: Awesome. Some of the most compelling conversations you've heard of late on screen.

Cinematography: Aseem Mishra serenades old world Mumbai with love and nostalgia.

Music: Pritam creates a lilting track, with a special mention for Pee Loon.

Styling: The 1970s is re-created with pizzazz. Watch out for the Bobby knotted choli sequence, donned by a shy and sweet Prachi. Adorable
